Search for SEO packages in Australia and you will find bronze, silver and gold tiers, keyword counts, backlink bundles and a long list of acronyms. What you will rarely find is a plain explanation of what actually happens each month, and whether it will bring you more customers.
This guide cuts through the packaging. It explains what a genuine monthly SEO package should include, which inclusions matter most, which ones to be cautious about, and how to choose a package that fits your business rather than a sales spreadsheet.
Why SEO is sold as a monthly package
SEO is not a one off job. Search engines reward websites that keep improving, keep publishing useful content and keep earning trust over time. A monthly package reflects that reality. Each month builds on the last, and the results compound.
That also means the quality of each month matters. A package that delivers real work every month will keep climbing. A package that delivers a report and a few tweaks will flatline, however impressive the tier name sounds.
The core inclusions every SEO package needs
1. Research that is specific to your buyers. Good packages start with keyword and competitor research built around the searches your customers actually make. For an engineering firm that might be a specialist capability plus a city. For a clinic it might be a treatment plus a suburb. Generic keyword lists copied between clients are a warning sign.
2. New content every month. Content is the engine of SEO. Articles, case studies and service pages that answer real questions are what search engines rank and what buyers read. Ask how many pieces will be published each month and who writes them. If the answer is vague, the content probably is too.
3. On page optimisation. Titles, headings, meta descriptions, internal links and image details should be improved across your important pages. This is steady, detailed work that makes every piece of content perform better.
4. Technical health. Site speed, mobile performance, indexing, broken links and structured data all affect rankings. A good package monitors these and fixes problems as they appear, rather than billing separately for every issue.
5. Clear reporting. You should be able to see rankings, traffic and enquiries, ideally live rather than in a monthly PDF. Reporting should show what was done and what changed as a result.
Inclusions worth questioning
Large backlink bundles. Links from other websites still matter, but packages that promise a fixed number of links each month are often buying them from low quality networks. Links like these can harm your site rather than help it. Genuine links are earned through good content and real relationships.
Keyword counts as the headline. Tracking fifty keywords is not the same as ranking for them. What matters is whether the right people are finding you and enquiring.
Long lock in contracts. Twelve month contracts protect the provider. If a package is delivering, you will want to stay anyway. If it is not, you should be free to leave.
Tiers that hide the hours. A package name tells you nothing. The number of hours spent on your business each month tells you almost everything.
SEO on its own, or SEO with marketing?
Many packages treat SEO as a standalone service. In practice, the businesses that grow fastest combine it with two other things.
Inbound marketing turns search traffic into enquiries, with case studies, landing pages and lead capture such as downloadable guides or checklists.
Outbound marketing takes your story directly to the people you want to work with, through email campaigns and LinkedIn outreach, so you are not waiting on search traffic alone.
When all three work together, each one strengthens the others. Content written for search becomes the material for outreach, and outreach sends interested people back to a website that is ready to convert them.
What our monthly package includes
We keep things simple with one package rather than a menu of tiers. Our affordable SEO services retainer is $2,500 per month plus GST and includes:
Monthly search engine optimisation (SEO), covering research, on page work, technical health and new articles.
Monthly inbound marketing, including case studies, landing pages and lead capture.
Monthly outbound marketing, including email campaigns and LinkedIn outreach.
12 hours per week, every week, of hands on work, not a few hours squeezed in at the end of the month.
Live monthly performance reviews, where we walk through the numbers together.
A free website redesign if desired, so your site is ready to convert the traffic we bring.
There is no contract unless you want one, and we recommend a three month trial to start.
What a well built package can deliver
For BevTech Engineering and Automation, a family owned engineering business specialising in FMCG and beverage plants, this approach increased website traffic by 405% in three months. The work included articles targeting the services BevTech wanted to grow, case studies drawn from real projects, a free plant shutdown planning checklist to capture leads, and a recruitment registration form so skilled applicants are on file when a role opens.
Because Colourberry also produces video, 3D animation and photography in house, our content is backed by proper visuals rather than stock imagery. That makes a noticeable difference to how long visitors stay and how likely they are to get in touch.
Questions to ask before you sign up to any SEO package
How many hours per month are spent on my business?
How many pieces of content will you publish, and can I see examples?
How do you earn links, and can you show me where they come from?
Can I see my results live at any time?
What is the minimum term, and what happens if I want to stop?
A provider who answers all five clearly is likely to deliver clearly too. For more warning signs to look out for, read How I Spot Bad SEO Agencies.
How long before an SEO package shows results?
This is the question behind every package decision, and it deserves an honest answer. Technical fixes and on page improvements can lift existing pages within weeks. New content usually takes longer, because search engines need time to find it, test it and build trust in it. Most businesses see meaningful movement in rankings and traffic within three months, with the stronger, compounding gains arriving over six to twelve months.
That timeline is why we recommend a three month trial rather than a twelve month contract. Three months is long enough to see whether the work is moving in the right direction, and short enough that you are never locked into something that is not working. It also keeps us focused. Without a contract to rely on, the only reason for a client to stay is results.
When you compare packages, be wary of any provider promising page one rankings in a few weeks. Quick wins do exist, particularly in local search and on pages that are already close to ranking, but lasting results come from steady, consistent work. The best packages are built for the long run and show you progress every month along the way.
